Arnel Pineda is Journey's new singer
posted by Jas, 12/06/07
An unknown Filipino singer named Arnel Pineda is now officially the new lead singer for Journey. I don't have to express any stronger that there's only one Steve Perry but my god! this guy gives me goosebumps, his voice sounds spookily similar to Steve, I almost had a tear when I heard it. In a press statement Pineda said, "It's so exciting to sing with one of the best bands in the world. It'll be a lot of hard work on my part and I'm actually looking forward to the scrutiny I'll get from the hardcore Journey fans. I know they'll expect me to sound exactly like 'the voice' (Steve Perry), but that will never happen. I know there's only one Steve Perry in this world." The official Journey website has the full press statement about the announcement and how Neal found Pineda on YouTube. Below is a clip of Pineda and his band The Zoo performing their version of 'Faithfully'.

Interview with Lincoln Brewster
posted by Jas, 08/18/07
Lincoln Brewster talked about his days with writing and touring with Steve

A couple of months passed. Then Brewster got a call. "It was Steve Perry from Journey. He said, 'I have your tape playing. If you're ever in L.A., I'd love to connect.'" Connect they did, and soon Brewster was traveling back and forth to Los Angeles, playing for Perry in a recording studio and seeing stars like Ozzy Osbourne and members of Van Halen. Then he'd fly back to Modesto and his work at a retail store in Vintage Faire Mall.

"I didn't tell anyone," Brewster said. "I wasn't officially in his band, so I just decided to keep quiet." Then came the tour as a member of Perry's band. It was an exciting time, Brewster said. "I kind of knew early on in touring with Steve that I wasn't going to do that thing forever," he said. "It was an interesting environment playing for people who were so grateful to be there. But two or three concerts into that tour, it just felt a little empty. I was a young Christian at the time." After Perry got sick and the last part of the tour was canceled, Brewster moved back to Modesto with his wife, Laura, also a Davis High graduate. Full interview

Josh Groban sang 'Don't Stop Believin'
posted by Jas, 08/16/07
During his concert at Xcel Energy Center last Friday night, Josh Groban performed Journey's Don't Stop Believin'.

"Thanks for making my album Number 1. Does anybody do that anymore?" Groban asked 13,000 faithful on Friday night at Xcel Energy Center. "That sounds like Journey in 1987." Then he broke into Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," on grand piano. So the powerhouse baritone eased into "Remember When It Rained," which built to a crescendo that Journey's Steve Perry's couldn't touch. No question, Groban, 26, has an emotionally powerful voice.

Steve is not back with Journey

Anne reports that Steve has posted a message at Fan Asylum squashing the rumour that he will reunite with Journey.

Hello everyone. This is Steve Perry. As you are aware I have yet to launch my own web site and Fan Asylum is still the only credible site for official statements from me. Once again they have kindly allowed me to post this statement. It has been brought to my attention that there is a rumor circulating that I am reuniting with Journey. I want to go on record as saying that I have no such plans whatsoever to do that. What you have heard is only a rumor. I'm truly sorry for any disappointment this rumor may be causing. I also would like to say that your faithfulness continues to warm my heart.

Thank you so very much,

Steve Perry

Punk News reports that Steve has apparently collaborated on some songs with Go Kart act Guff.

Looks like Journey is popping up in more places than just incredibly frustrating finales. The band's singer Steve Perry has apparently collaborated on some songs with Go Kart act Guff. Their label explained, "While Guff was in the studio, Steve Perry, the legendary lead singer of Journey, walked in to visit a friend. He was so impressed with Guff that he showed up unannounced two days later and asked Guff to cover an unreleased Journey song. Steve not only produced the song "I Can See It In Your Eyes" but also sang on it!". The cover will appear on the band's upcoming album. The record is titled Symphony Of Voices and is due out June 26, 2007.

Download sales of 'Don't Stop Believin'' on iTunes rocketed an incredible 482% after The Sopranos finale.

"The Sopranos" may be over, but the timeless music of Journey lives on. After Journey's classic power ballad "Don't Stop Believin'" served as the soundtrack to the climactic final set-piece of HBO's hit mafia family television series, download sales of the song on iTunes rocketed an incredible 482% for the period from Saturday, June 9 (the night before "The Sopranos" finale) through Tuesday, June 12.

As downloads of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" reached record numbers, demand for the band's CD catalog began accelerating. By Thursday, June 14, sales for Journey's "Greatest Hits" album had increased 104% at Best Buy; 98% at Borders; 97% at Target; and 40% at Circuit City. During a typical week, "Don't Stop Believin'," a perennial favorite, averages roughly 1,000 downloads per day on iTunes. On Sunday, June 10 (immediately post-finale), that number jumped to 2,491. On Monday, June 11, that figure hit 6,531. By Wednesday, June 13, the song was #1 on the iTunes Music Rock Chart and #18 on the iTunes Music Top 100 chart, a phenomenally strong showing for a track that's turning 26 this year. Nuno Bettencourt writing new music with Steve Perry
posted by Jas, 05/31/2007
According to the Post Chronicle Nuno Bettencourt is currently writing new material with Steve Perry. The Boston Herald recently had an interview with Nuno where he mentioned that he's working with Steve.

A meeting of such different minds is a very L.A. thing, said Bettencourt, who now makes his home there. "People don't discriminate out here," he said. "No one thinks, 'Oh, I can't work with him because he's pop or he's alternative.' People are really up for these eclectic combinations out here." Bettencourt should know - he's pushing the eclectic envelope. Between making the Satellite Party record and touring it, he's writing songs with Steve Perry of Journey.

"I'm now telling people I'll only work with people named Perry," said Bettencourt with a laugh. As two of the few guys in rock of Portuguese descent, they've been friends since Perry cold-called him rambling in Portuguese. "That's the way it is out here. One day you're working with Perry Farrell, the next you're working with Steve Perry."
